What Should I Know About Learning To Skate?

Ice rinks are typically cold inside. Dress in layers and wear a sweater or jacket. Also, we recommend you wear mittens or gloves. Wind suits or warm-ups allow greater flexibility than jeans. Use of a helmet is encouraged for very young or beginning skaters. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes befpre class time. This allows ample time for putting on skates and checking in with your instructor.

Basic Skills Program

U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for figure skating in the United States. The Basic Skills Program is a beginning ice skating program that is fun, challenging and rewarding. It encourages skaters of all ages to learn the fundamentals of the sport and begin a lifetime commitment to health and fitness.

The U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program offers curriculum for Snowplow Sam (Preschool/Pre-K) 1-3, Basic Skills 1-8, Hockey 1-4, Adult 1-4, and Specialized Programs for Free Skating and Syncronized Team Skating, Dance and Artistry in Motion (AIM). The Basic Skills Program is endorsed by USA Hockey.
